where i’m at + revised training plan

Goodbye week from hell, I will not miss you one bit! The sad part is that the one coming up might match this one just ending…oh, great! So where am I at in school right now? Oh right, I had two video recorded counseling sessions to do, not to mention studying for a midterm and doing another videotaped session next week.

I swear I would pay someone a million dollars to make next week disappear and bring me to reading week (which is a week I have off after next week’s!).

So, I apologize for the lack of posts and even the lack of spiffyness in this one. But I promise, I will show some better stuff, if not next week, the week after when I’m free as a bird…for a week.

Switching gears, I started my training this past Monday. Yes, I like things organized. Yes, I like when things go my way (who doesn’t?!). But no, did I ever think I would be able to do everyday exactly as I typed it on my training plan. I skipped Tuesday and Wednesday altogether because a) I had school work coming out of the wazoo and b) by the time all that work was done, all I wanted to do was sleep. And sleep I did yesterday. 3 hour naps are seriously where it’s at. Especially when your baby let’s you do them!

So I skipped two days on my training plan. So what? You move onto the next thing, and I did that last night!

I posted my training plan and I’m already revising it. There are a few things I didn’t seriously consider when making it, like:

  • having yourself run three days in a row, with your first day as the “easy” run…let’s just say that, that has been changed to the third day
  • having more flexibility with cross-training, weight training and rest day (seeing as I rely on the hubby to be with Nia when I can do this stuff, I’m going to be a bit more flexible with what day I use. ex: my rest day might be Wednesday this week, but maybe Monday the following week)
  • making my speed work/interval runs not so set – some days I might have a timed run in mind (ex: 30 mins of speed work), and other days I might do it by miles (2 mile interval run). Even though I’ve kept the numbers the same, I might decide to change it once the day comes.

And with those revisions, here’s what the plan looks like now:

Half Marathon Training Plan Revised

Half Training

So apart from skipping out on Tuesday and Wednesday, how am I doing so far?!

I did my 2.5 miles on Monday and it felt good. Just kept a steady pace of 6.5mph and watched a bit of a movie. I will definitely use Monday as a way to run at a pace that’s comfortable. Right now it seems to be 6.5, but with speed work, I’m hoping I can get it up to around 6.8 at least.

And then yesterday, I did an interval run (and I actually did follow how I have it written on the plan above), which was really good as well, it went like this:

  • 1 mile warm-up at 6.5
  • 400m @ 8.5
  • 400m recovery @ 6.1
  • 400m @ 8.7
  • 400m recovery @ 6.2

Total time: 17:48

You can always keep up with my progress on DailyMile too!

That’s all I got for now. I can’t wait until school doesn’t overtake my life daily. 5 weeks of the semester done, 7 to go. Yes, I count daily weekly!

******

Random question, but did you get hit with snow?! It’s non-stop here today and reason why I am staying indoors!!

I think you’re training plan looks great. I’m training for a half marathon in March and I’m sort of sticking to a plan but I just adapt it to what I’m feeling like and what works best with me in terms of what my week’s like. I don’t think anyone really rigidly sticks to a plan! Hope it goes well :)
