a long weekend, a long run, and a long drive back home

I have three subtitles for this post all relating to long-ness! Here we go!
A LONG WEEKEND
Hopefully everyone had a good long weekend and looking forward to the short week. We were able to escape on Saturday and head to my in-laws. First, let me tell you, my husband works SO hard, pretty much 24/7, so he really needed this time away. (Although, he was already back in work-mode last night, just thinking about all the things he had to do today. At least he enjoyed himself for two days before ‘panic’ set in .) And second, we really had to make this trip because Tyler hasn’t been home since last August, so it was well overdue. This is his parents’ backyard.
And the sunset last night.
We had such a great weekend. We got to catch up with some of Ty’s friends, and hangout with his fam. We also got out on the boat on Sunday, as it was a gorg day. This little lady didn’t make the boat ride back home though, which was A-okay because I haven’t had her nap on me in ages. I loved every second of it!
And, before she fell asleep – a little Nia sandwich.
Nia also had some fun in the sand on the beach. She totally took to exfoliating her skin. Smart girl .
And, I was also able to do something that was pretty stellar, despite my hip flexor problems I’ve been having…
A LONG RUN
Yesterday, Tyler and his dad headed to the golf course in the afternoon and his mom offered to watch Nia so I could run to the golf course and meet them. The plan was for me to run to the course, and when I got there, they would stop and we would all drive home together. Yeah, that didn’t exactly happen. I thought the route Ty and I had mapped out would take 4-5 miles for me to get there, but in reality, it only took 2.5.
I really had it set in my mind that I wanted to run at least those 4-5 miles (aka a ‘longer’ run), so when I was there in 2.5 miles, I decided to just let Tyler know that I was going to turn around and run back home (instead of driving with them)!!
When I turned around to start back heading home (I ran to the very entrance of the golf course so it actually took me to 3.1 miles), I actually decided to not take my direct route back and cut out to the main road so that it would add distance. I LOVE when I can be that person (adding distance). My hip flexor has been very good to me and not causing me as much pain, so I took advantage of it.
With my cut out to the main road and doing an extra couple loops around where my in-laws are, I ended up running this:
8 miles in 1:08, which I was VERY pleased with. I did my final mile in around 7:57 and the rest were in the 8′s. My cup of tea .
And now we’re in for…
A LONG DRIVE BACK HOME
We took an extra day on the long weekend, but are finally headed back home today. It’s 5 hours (or more because we have a baby haha), but we coast and just stop when we need to. The drive is actually pretty nice (scenery-wise) because we go through Algonquin Park, and could potentially see a moose. It’s only happened twice before, but you never know .
And now, I’m sorry, this has turned into subtitle #4: a long post! Time to stop. Have a great Tuesday!
Question: Have you ever seen a moose in person?! OR, how often do you visit home??
